Devin got 4 stitches on his left eyelid last month (4/22 to be exact). He was playing & fell onto the head board of his bed, right on the edge. He was hysterical. It was towards the early evening so Andrew took him to the ER for examination (our doctor's office was closed by then). And the ER doctor decided to give him stitches since it would leave less of a scar (would've healed fine without stitches too but the scar might be more visible).
They were at the ER for 5 hours. Serena & I went there at 9pm to bring them dinner because they couldn't leave in case they were called. Two hours later, he was called in. This began Andrew's hardest task to-date as a parent. He basically had to hold Devin down (after he was wrapped in a large sheet to prevent him from thrashing about). It broke Andrew's heart. What broke my heart was when they came home, Devin simply had no words for me when I asked if he was ok. He gave me a look & just fell into my arms & weep silently. It was midnight. He was spent. I wish I could undo everything that happened to him that night. But he bounced back pretty quickly the next day. He was happy again & daddy told him he was the bravest son in the world. And Andrew got him a trophy to prove it.
Five days later, the stitches came off. It was almost as horrible an experience as when he was getting the stitches. Again, Andrew restraining him...the doctor had to use a scalpel to remove 2 of the stitches because it was so tightly sutured. Andrew just prayed for the doctor to have steady hands with the scalpel so close to Devin's eye. Thankfully, everything went well.
Devin, tired & spent, for the second time in a week, got his stitches removed.
On a side note, since Devin was receiving so much attention from us, the first day or two, Serena would point to her eyelid and say, "boo boo" and begins to fake cry (and she does that very well).
Oh boy, I think we have two comedians on our hands.

I am SO sorry to hear about the stitches incident. Wow.
Amidst the tension and stress, kids always bring joy like Serena's desire for attention, lol!
ahhh, second children--Ruby is a drama queen if I say so myself :)
